Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
The Second Step Players
The Second Step Players are pioneers in the mental health recovery movement. They use original, topical theater about mental health (primarily comedy) to educate, entertain, and create positive social change by dispelling negative myths and stereotypes about people who have experienced mental health issues.
Comic Alchemy
This stand up comedy troupe consists of adults who have experienced mental health issues. Our comics mine their mental health histories and transmute them into comic gold. The stand up comedy troupe "Comic Alchemy" is available for hire and is suitable for audiences such as allied health programs, graduate programs in psychology and medicine, and the general public.
Music Heals!
Artreach's Music program is led by a professional musician who recruits community musicians to support adults with mental illnesses to sing with Artreach's house bands, Shrink Rapt and Jean Poole and the Chromotones. Guitar and bass lessons are available. There is a weekly intermediate level jazz group that plays from the "Real Books."
Artistic Development Classes
Artreach provides classes in poetry, playwriting, acting, visual arts, and more. Local and national artists, writers, and musicians are hired to lead workshops, classes and residencies.
Work Hard/Play Hard
The Work Hard/Play Hard recreation and wellness program offers outings and groups to reduce isolation, build social skills in the community, and increase physical wellness.
Because Creativity Heals! An Arts and Health Podcast
Launched in 2017, the Because Creativity Heals! Podcast is Artreach's newest program. Early episodes feature activities close to home (Artreach staff and members). Our intention is to feature national guests in the field of Arts and Health.
