What we aim to solve
100 Black Men of Western Pennsylvania , Inc seeks to improve the quality of life for the communities we serve. The 100 of WPA is part of the largest network of African American male mentors and influencers inf the nation, works collectively with partners to transform the lives of underrepresented and disenfranchised youth, with a focus on African American youth.

MENTORING WORKSHOPS
PROGRAM MEETS EACH SATURDAY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR AND FOCUES ON MODELING AND DEVELOPMENT OF ACADEMIC AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS, TUTORING,SELF ESTEEM,CITIZENSHIP, AND APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR. TOPICS OF WORKSHOPS INCLUDE LEARNING THE ART OF DEBATE, DEALING WITH PEER PRESSURE,DEVELOPING GOOD STUDY SKILLS, ACADEMIC PLANNING, AND CAREER COUNSELING.
TUTORING PROGRAM
PROGRAM MEETS EACH SATURDAY AT CCAC FOR 1 HOUR AND FOCUSES ON STUDENTS HOMEWORK AND STUDY HABITS . TUTORS ARE FROM THE CMU NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS
Due to Covid-19 the program has shifted virtual programing.
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON TEACHING OUR YOUTH TO BECOME WEALTH BUILDERS, NOT JUST CONSUMERS. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ADDRESS SELF SUFFICIENCY AND FINANCIAL LITERACY. MODULES TAUGHT INCLUDE BASIC BANKING, CHECKING AND SAVING ACCOUNTS, THE POWER OF CREDIT AND HOW TO USE CREDIT CARDS, AND INVESTING.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
IN COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS WE PROVIDE EDUCATION AND PREVENTATIVE HEALTH STRATEGIES FOR PREVAILING DISEASES WITHIN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITIES.
TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
INFOLINK SUMMER COMPUTER CAMP IS A 10 WEEK LONG PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ARE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ADVANCED SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS AND APPLY THEIR NEWLY LEARNED SKILLS IN A PAID INTERNSHIP WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES
CULTURAL AWARENESS
THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ENABLE CULTURAL HEALING BY HAVING STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN VARIOUS ASPECTS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL LEARNING AND EXERCISES, SUCH AS KWANZAA, CULTURAL TRIPS TO AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUMS AND ART EXHIBITS AS WELL AS MUSIC FESTIVALS .

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Through our platform of Mentoring the 100 Way Across A Lifetime, we provide Four For the Future programmatic initiatives (Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness and Economic Empowerment) all overlaid by leadership. The work of the 100 makes fundamental difference in the lives of the youth we touch and the communities we serve.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
100 Black Men Of Western PA Saturday Academy Programs
The Saturday Academy runs September thru May mimicking the school year mentees begin with tutoring for all subject. Followed by two hours of one of the following programs on a rotating basis.
PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS
The goals and objectives of the Pathways to Success program are to:
• Increase the talent development and career readiness of 100 Black Men Chapter mentees and/or marginalized youth of color
• Increase the business acumen and competencies for participants in preparation for the workplace and marketplace
• Expand the participants’ awareness of corporate and entrepreneurial career pathways & provide skills development training and coaching
• Provide a relevant program for 100 Black Men Chapters that also supports Wells Fargo’s commitment to outreach, education, and inclusion
• Create a Strategic Alliance between our local Chapter and local Wells Fargo leadership.
DOLLARS & $ENSE
The goal of this program is to help students understand basic savings/investment principles and to apply these standard in their day-to-day lives. The 8-week High School Financial Planning Program curriculum will aid students in exploring basic investment options and processes and provide students with a hands-on learning experience around financial planning. The program will utilize Module 1: Money Management and Module 4: Investing. The course is further enhanced by field trips, guest speakers, reading materials, and games. Three students are selected based on performance to from a team. They are give a financial scenario and must develop a financial plan helping the person in the scenario achieve their financial goals. The top 3 team from participating chapter are selected to attend the 100 Black Men Of America national conference and compete for Scholarship money.
INFOLINK
The Infolink-100 Summer Computer Camp is an intense technology training program in partnership with Highmark and Carnegie Mellon University. Over the course of 10 weeks, High School and Middle School students are given the opportunity to learn advanced software applications, participate in technology- integrated group projects, and apply their new skills in paid internships with local high technology and technology using companies.
CULTURE
This program is designed to transform students from a conceptual framework of thinking and feeling to a more contextual wholeness. That enables cultural healing by participating in various aspects of African American culture such as our Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, field trips to art museums.
TUTORING
As part of our Saturday Academy we begin the day with 2 hours of tutoring for our students. The Tutoring is lead by volunteer student members Carnegie Mellon’s National Society of Black Engineers. The tutors are prepared to help our mentees with any subject. Mentees with a GPA lower than 3.0 are required to attend tutoring sessions.

We decided to continue our program virtualy out of safty concerns from parents due to Covid 19 spike. We increase our Health & Wellness workshop to include healthy cooking.
