Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
While striving to preserve local materials of genealogical and historical importance, NEPGS also seeks to increase community awareness and involvement in researching local and family histories.
NEPGS has several specific short term goals, including; Increasing NEPGS Digital Library Holdings, strengthening member participation in DNA research techniques, expanding membership levels and achieving fundraising goals.
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
NEPGS is celebrating our 25th Anniversary Year in 2017. During this important milestone year, NEPGS is also making great progress on digitally preserving local parish records as part of our exclusive agreement with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton.
Through participation in community and NEPGS events, increased advertising and communications, and specific fundraising campaigns, NEPGS will leverage the success of our RC Parish Records Preservation Project, and our achievement of 25 years of serving our community, to attain stated goals.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
NEPGS has a strong commitment from our Board, our volunteers, and our members. Our records preservation team is doing an outstanding job of increasing our library of digital holdings, focusing on the RC Records Preservation Project.
Many of our Board members and volunteers are multi-tasking, promoting NEPGS within our community, assisting with records preservation efforts, providing support to members and visitors during open research hours and DNA forums, etc.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
NEPGS is recording and reporting metrics on membership levels, visitor rates, participation levels in DNA forums, fundraising goal progress, etc.
Our library holdings are updated frequently and published on our website, and NEPGS is communicating our progress on the RC Parish Records Preservation Project through our website and in our quarterly member newsletter.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
NEPGS is at the half-way point in the RC Parish Records Preservation Project. We have begun to leverage this accomplishment as part of our communications campaign. Some early successes have been achieved.
Growth in membership levels and achieving fundraising goals are a focus of NEPGS events planned for the upcoming months.
Our membership levels through Q1 have been relatively flat.

Funding Needs

Our digital library now measures at several terabytes and is growing every week as we continue with our records preservation efforts. We have the need to upgrade some equipment and address increased demand on our servers and network. We are also in need of upgrades to some aging PCs for member and patron research use.
