What we aim to solve
The major underlying causes of poverty among our beneficiaries are 1) a lack of affordable housing 2) a crisis in affordable access to preventive health care which results in chronic poor health and 3) a scarcity of living wage jobs. We serve nearly 20% of the South Whidbey community by providing supplemental food through a dignified, grocery-style foodbank. Our shoppers include young working families, seniors on fixed incomes and a small number of the chronically homeless.

Building a hunger-free community
Good Cheer operates a food bank with an organic farm which supplies supplemental food to 900 households on South Whidbey. It has 220 volunteers, 20 permanent staff, and is 80% funded by its two thrift stores. In this way, Good Cheer helps the environment by recycling usable items at a low cost and using proceeds to help create a hunger-free community.
