Mission Statement

Miller Theatre Advisory Board acts as
a steward of public and private funds to provide professional caliber performances, free to
the public, at Miller Outdoor Theatre for the cultural enrichment of Houston’s
diverse communities and visitors. Additionally, the Board is charged with overseeing and improving operations
of the Theatre, increasing visibility of the Theatre within the community, and
ensuring financial stability.

Program 1

MTAB attempts to assure free access to the performing arts, and to increase awareness of the quality and diversity of Houstons performing arts community. MTAB contracts with and supports performing arts groups ($798,276). It also obtained an intellabeam lighting system and made minor repairs and upkeep to the theatre ($25,714). Among MTABs recent accomplishments were purchasing an intellebeam lighting system in 1994, and spending $22,000 in 1995 upgrading the sound equipment. The Board anticipates attendance to be over 400,000 this season.

Since 1923, Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park has been Houston’s venue for free outdoor performances.

This remarkable facility with its free high-quality programs is unique in the US. It is the only proscenium theatre in the country that offers an artistically excellent, culturally diverse eight month season of performances totally free of charge to the public.

BIO

CISSY SEGALL DAVIS has been involved in the production, management and promotion of the theatrical, entertainment and special event industries since 1972.  She is Managing Director of the Miller Theatre Advisory Board, managing day to day operations, a grants program and presented series to create an annual season of artistically and culturally diverse free performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park, the largest program of its kind in the U.S. 
A graduate of the University of Texas, Segall Davis is on the Board of the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau and on the Advisory Board of Houston’s High School for Performing & Visual Arts.   She served on the boards of a number of non-profit organizations including Theatre Under The Stars (President,1985-1987); Texas Institute for Arts in Education (President,1994-1996; Chairman, 1996-1997);  Congregation Beth Israel; and Career & Recovery Resources, among others.  She was named a “Woman of Influence” by the National Council of Jewish Women, Houston.
