Foster Care Group Home

Youth Haven is the designated Residential Shelter for children ages through 10-18 in Collier County providing specialized services to children and teens who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. Children and youth are accepted 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our 18-acre therapeutic campus is located in a secluded, wooded setting, allowing the children to feel a sense of belonging, and engage in a myriad of outdoor activities including sports, bicycling, gardening, and nature exploration. Indoors they enjoy engaging activities like therapeutic art activities, yoga and dance. Group activities like talent shows, outings and events encourage the children to laugh and explore their potential. The children attend public school (most often the school in which they were currently attending prior to coming to Youth Haven), and participate in a wide variety of both on and off campus recreational, cultural and social activities.

Youth living on their own, unsupported, and in substandard conditions are provided with stable housing and support to achieve self-sufficiency. While some youth are self-referred, youth are brought by the Collier County Public School District or the Collier County Sheriff's Department.Homelessness takes a significant toll on young people's lives, their emotional and physical health, relationships and educational goals. They experience and witness compounding poverty, abuse, addiction, neglect and abandonment. They are at greatest risk for depression, substance abuse and falling victim to violence.   Youth are provided with a support system that includes a Case Manager to work on their individualized goal plan. They also receive a Mentor that works closely on the day-to-day efforts and walks beside them toward achieving their desired goals. Youth are provided with intensive life- skills training to assist them in becoming independent, successfully adjusted adults.

Population(s) Served
Adolescents

Youth Haven’s Rapid Re-Housing program which supports teenagers ages 16 -19 that reside in our cottage for homeless teens, Rob’s Group Home, as they leave our program and advance into transitional living or student housing. The Rapid Rehousing program is critical in preventing teens transitioning out of Rob’s Group Home and the foster care system from becoming homeless.

Homeless people

A key element of Youth Haven’s Counseling Center is our Animal-Assisted Therapy Program. Animal-Assisted Therapy is known to decrease stress levels, anxiety, depression, and blood pressure. Studies have shown that Animal-Assisted Therapy also improves the child and teen’s ability to communicate and socialize; improves mood; lowers stress hormones; increases self-esteem; and enables the child & teen to work on building and developing trusting relationships.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our mission is to provide Home, Hope, and Healing to abused and neglected children and teens in Southwest Florida. Founded in 1972, Youth Haven is Southwest Florida’s only residential shelter for boys and girls ages 10-19 who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, abandonment or are homeless. Youth Haven is an immediate lifeline of safety, love and compassion for innocent children in crisis and the first step in a long journey back to trust, confidence and joy.

Our 25-acre therapeutic campus houses over 70 youth with a waking staff system that allows for around-the-clock specialized care, offering a safe place for the children & teens to sleep, play, learn, receive therapy and participate in our life-skills program. Youth Haven has a resident chef that provides healthy meals, a bustling art program that promotes creativity, and enrichment activities that expose the children and teens to opportunities that they may have never experienced before. Youth Haven views challenges as opportunities in helping each child gain confidence, independence and success as they continue to strengthen the community they serve; laying the foundation for children and teens to have hope for a brighter, better future.

Numerous community sources refer children for shelter at Youth Haven including child protective services, courts, school counselors, the Sheriff’s Office, and sometimes even the children themselves. However, the solution to their problems is not simply providing temporary shelter; it is providing youth with the resources they need to improve their resiliency so that they may grow into happy, healthy, productive adults. The solution includes helping the child nurture a safe and secure connection with their family or a responsible, caring adult. Youth Haven provides these solutions through programs that create a circle of support, producing real and lasting change for children, families and the community. At Youth Haven, we’re committed to providing HOME, HOPE & HEALING.

With over 49 years of service to the children and families of Collier County, Youth Haven is uniquely positioned to continue the work of providing emergency shelter to abused, neglected and abandoned children and youth. The longevity of the staff is an example of the commitment to the well-being of the children. Our staff possess the credentials and dedication to provide the highest quality, individualized and specialized care for traumatized children and their families. The Youth Haven campus is situated on an 18-acre therapeutic landscape. The Cottages are welcoming for the children and are well-maintained in an home-like setting. Recreational areas are active daily with basketball, playgrounds and open areas for play. All of the comforts of home are built in to help the children feel as safe as possible.  Youth Haven has maintained its accreditation through the Council on Accreditation for Social and Behavioral Health Services since 2008.

Youth Haven values its ability to work collectively with its strategic partners to better serve the needs of children and teens throughout Collier County and beyond.

Youth Haven continues to meet the growing needs of our Southwest Florida community to provide specialized services and programming for traumatized youth in crisis. The emergency and residential programming serves over 70 youth in residence through around-the-clock specialized care, offering a safe place for the children & teens to sleep, play, learn, receive therapy and participate in our life-skills program

16 of the 70 beds that we have available are part of our Transitional Living Cottage, Rob’s Group Home, which provides comprehensive 24-hour care, with a longer average length of stay for homeless unaccompanied youth ages 16 to 19. Rob’s Group Home offers our homeless teens a safe and caring environment, a place to sleep and access to intensive case management, educational support, nutritious meals, and medical and mental health services. We continue to work with them by providing structured Case Management with the expectation of working toward self-sufficiency. Goals are set at intake and we have a weekly case review to monitor the progress of each goal and address behavior issues.

We will continue to offer HOME, HOPE & HEALING to all of the children and teens that depend on Youth Haven.
