Mission

Our mission at the National Headache Foundation has been to further awareness of headache and migraine as legitimate neurobiological diseases. With aid from advanced technology and clinical innovation, there are more treatment options than ever before.

We have collected the most comprehensive information on headache and migraine, which we make freely available to you. Every day, our physician finder connects patients, who have just begun to seek treatment or those who are looking for more options, to neurologists and headache specialists. Our magazine, Head Wise provides in depth articles on advances in treatment and understanding of these complex diseases.

Population(s) Served

Despite the prevalence of headache, there are not nearly enough clinicians recognized for their ability to care for it. As you may know, requirements to obtain the subspecialty in headache medicine via the certification process of the United Council of Subspecialties in Neurology, are restrictive and effectively prevent all non-neurologists from receiving recognition. As a pain management specialist caring for headache and migraine patients, you should not be prohibited from being recognized. Recognizing qualified clinicians also helps headache patients find the care they need. Exams are offered in all 50 states twice a year.
