What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
AHCCM sponsors year-round concerts by its Permanent and Founding Artists-in-Residence, the Apple Hill Chamber Players and Guest Artists, as well as benefit concerts to enrich the musical and artistic life of the community. AHCCM's Playing for Peace project promotes friendship, peace, understanding, and basic contact between and among Israeli Jews, Israeli Arabs, Jordanians, Egyptians, Syrians, Americans and participants from many other countries through concerts, master classes, and chamber music workshops. The Apple Hill Playing for Peace Project is now in its fourteenth year. Apple Hill will again be awarding scholarships to young musicians from the Middle East to attend the month-long International Session of the Summer School and Festival in New Hampshire.
Summer Chamber Music Workshop
The summer program is divided into five 10-day sessions, with each session attended by 60 participants ranging in age from 12 to 90. Each ensemble is coached daily for 1 1/2 hours. In the student concerts that close each session, all groups have the opportunity to perform for an appreciative and encouraging audience of fellow participants, faculty, family, and friends. Pre-formed ensembles may apply. These groups will be coached, and individuals in these groups will also be mixed into new ensembles with other members of the participant community. Each member of a pre-formed group must apply separately.
Playing for Peace
Central to the mission of Apple Hill is Playing for Peace, an innovative outreach program founded in 1988 that focuses on social change and conflict resolution through music. The principal tenet of Playing for Peace is this: musicians are assigned to play in small ensembles alongside musicians from conflicting communities. Participants learn to play music, communicate, and connect with each other in ways that may not be possible in their home communities.
Summer Concert Series
The Summer Concert Series features the Apple Hill String Quartet and Summer Chamber Music Workshop guest faculty artists. Each Tuesday night concert is preceded by a buffet dinner and listenUP, a pre-concert lecture series by Director Leonard Matczynski.
