Mission

The Hartford Consortium for Higher Education fosters collaborative endeavors among higher education institutions to:

§ EXPLORE new academic directions through optimal sharing of collegial resources, information, expertise and ideas;

§ SERVE as a catalyst for innovative educational initiatives that respond to a changing educational environment;

§ ENCOURAGE educational excellence across the lifespan; and

§ ASSERT the role of higher education in the economic, cultural and social life of Hartford and the region.

Career Beginnings

Career Beginnings is a college access program for under-represented students in public schools to provide general college knowledge, mentoring, workshops on college preparation, college counseling, and application assistance for students who generally are first-generation college applicants.  It serves more than 500 students annually and offers over 100 adult mentors.

Population(s) Served

The Consortium offers member institutions the opportunity to share knowledge and resources, undertake joint planning, provide course tuition remission to employees and participate in joint learning and advocacy efforts in support of higher education.

Population(s) Served

Only the second of its kind in the country, Graduate! CT provides adult learners with some college credit information, counseling and resources to return to school and complete their degrees.  It serves up to 500 adults annually.

The Hartford Consortium provides small grants to faculty and staff at member insitutions to undertake special projects and research not funded in other ways, that will benefit the higher education community and Hartford at large.
