The goal of the Dr. Paul Ernsberger Research Scholarship is to provide financial support to graduate students currently enrolled in a graduate program with an accredited U.S. college or university. Dr. Ernsberger’s decades of research on metabolic syndrome, diabetes, weight cycling, and the medical harm caused by diet obsession and weight bias has had an immeasurable impact on debunking myths and misunderstandings about fat and health. It is an honor for NAAFA to support the continuation of his important work by supporting graduate students who hope to carry on and advance Dr. Ernsberger’s legacy.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

OUR VISION
A society in which people of every size are accepted with dignity and equality in all aspects of life.

OUR MISSION
To eliminate discrimination based on body size and provide fat people with the tools for self-empowerment through public education, advocacy and support.

OUR GOAL
The mission of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance is to change perceptions of fat and end size discrimination through advocacy, education, and support.

Demanding equal opportunity for fat people wherever obstacles and discrimination exist.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
NAAFA endeavors to ensure that diversity and inclusion is intrinsic to our organization, reflecting the values we wish others to apply to their organizations, businesses and institutions.

We also want to unite our members and supporters representing all areas of difference by showing our solidarity with diversity in all its forms and our commitment to the understanding of intersectionality in our community.

Ultimately, it is our goal to have U.S. federal anti-discrimination laws include weight/height or physical appearance as a protected class.

We offer free educational webinars to our members and the public in a variety of subject matters by a wide variety of speakers and panels.

Brochures and tool kits in English and Spanish that are available for anyone to read online or download for sharing.

We remain the subject matter experts available for consultation with the media and issue press release on pertinent news items.

We work directly with legislators and their constituents who are working to change legislation in their jurisdiction.

We offer quarterly mini-grants to individuals in the U.S. that are working to bring special size-related projects to their communities.

We remain active on social media to involve new and younger members.

We initiated a Future of NAAFA Committee that includes activists from a variety of marginalized identities to advise the organization and act as a "think tank" for new and fresh ideas to keep NAAFA relevant.

We have a wealth of volunteers that have the knowledge and capabilities necessary to move us forward in our Board of Directors and Advisory Board and volunteers.

We have provided and continue to provide statements and assistance to legislators and governmental agencies around areas that directly affect people of size.

We speak out through social media and press releases on subjects that concern our community.

We work with other organizations on specific campaigns that affect our community.

We continue to update our brochures and tool kits available to anyone and will be working on a legislative tool kit and have translated the majority of our current brochures and tool kits into Spanish.

We worked with representatives of Google on plus-size inclusive insights for their marketing teams, which will be made public later in 2022.
