Mission

Adams Memorial Library and its two branches (one is a bookmobile) provide traditional and progressive public library offerings, including: programs for all ages; fun and useful online tools; homework help; outreach for people with limited access to our brick-and-mortar buildings; a vibrant collection of over 90,000 items (including eBooks, Blu-rays, DVDs, music CDs, downloadables, MP3s, games, puzzles, magazines and of course books) with thousands more added each year; and highly-trained and willing reference staff who provide personal assistance when navigating through the world of information.

Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Collection Development

Unlike many organizations, our program and our organization are nearly identical. Our entire purpose for existing is to provide resources for people that they would not have access to or could not afford to buy or maintain as individuals. It is impossible to separate our "program" from our "collection" -- they are one and the same. No longer limited to merely physical objects, our collection includes online, downloadable, and electronic formats in addition to traditional ones available in print materials. We also offer the latest and best media offerings.

Population(s) Served

We partner with multiple other agencies for certain programs. Examples include: Group purchases for online databases and eBooks; County-wide Multi-generational Wii Bowling Tournaments; children's programming; One Book One Community (where everyone in the county reads the same book together and discusses it); photography and other displays; and Million Minute Challenges (where we attempt to have libraries log one million collective minutes of reading).

Population(s) Served

For kids of all ages, including adults, readers can engage in summer-long activities that promote reading. Participants log hours to win prizes, and each year's theme provides a launching pad to additional fun.

Population(s) Served

There is no age group that isn't represented at our programs. Teens enjoy our Art Attacks and young adult book discussions. Toddlers have their own story-times geared for their tastes, as well as special crafts just for their skill levels. The kids in between are treated to programs from local musicians, dancers, magicians, stage performers and puppeteers, as well as "non-performers" like bakers, scientists, and sports figures.

Population(s) Served

We have held and continue to hold programs on topics such as: history (local and non), music, art, folklore, veterans benefits, navigating the Social Security website, safe driving, crafts, health topics, book clubs, financial planning, passport fairs, technology "petting zoos" and more.
