Mission Statement

The mission of The Flagship Niagara League, in association with the Erie Maritime Museum, is to collect, preserve, document and interpret, the U.S. Brig Niagara and its role in The Lake Erie Campaigns of the War of 1812 and the maritime contributions of Erie.

Sail Trainee Program

The U.S. Brig Niagara's cornerstone curriculum is its live-aboard sail training program. Open to anyone age 14 and over, Niagara's itineraries include programs specifically designed for high school students, college students, and adults of any age. Programs include History under Sail, Exploring the Great Lakes Session I and II, Maritime Academy Program, and Williams-Mystic.

The U.S. Brig Niagara is a wooden tall ship which sails five months a year. The sailing budget is between $700,000-$800,000 annually. Major costs include salaries/benefits and repairs/maintenance on the ship. Every year there's a major project that the team works on during winter maintenance.

BIO

Mr. Waskiewicz has served as the Executive Director since February, 2012. He graduated with a BS in Business Administration, minor in Economics, from Edinboro University of PA. In 2011 he completed his MS in Organizational Leadership from Mercyhurst University. Shawn has 15 years of experience working successfully in the sports industry and his skills have transferred over to the non-profit sector. Under his leadership, Flagship Niagara League's endowment and annual budget has continually grown.
