Mission

The World Policy Institute,
a non-partisan global think tank, provides a solution-focused forum for policy
analysis and public debate.  Headquartered in New York, WPI brings together diverse voices to develop constructive
solutions to emerging global challenges. Focusing on issues that are crucial to
our future but have not yet received the attention that they merit, WPI promotes policy ideas in support of its goals:  an inclusive and sustainable
global market economy, effective and fair global governance, and collaborative approaches
to security. Through our Fellows program, regular public and private events, policy research, and educational and outreach activities, we constantly seek to push beyond the insular barriers of the policy world and highlight underrepresented issues  for a broader audience of stakeholders and citizens.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

World Policy Journal, celebrating its 25th anniversary in Fall 2008, promotes an internationalist perspective that transcends the traditional foreign-versus-domestic policy divide. It identifies and promotes new ideas and voices. Citizenship promotes civic inclusion and addresses changing global citizenship regimes in an era of global interdependence, record human migration and fluid concepts of state sovereignty. Human Security re-draws the policy options menu to emphasize the importance of a broader definition of security that includes crucial yet under-recognized security issue areas and actors-like climate change, development, resource shortages, migration, and civil society-as essential components of conflict prevention and mediation. Addressing the intellectual gap between the World Economic Forum and World Social Forum, Shared Global Prosperity promotes a ?win win? approach to globalization that combines open and orderly trade, financial, and migration flows with the creation of a new ?global social floor,? investment in human capital, and empowerment of those displaced by trade.
