What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Empowering U
Heartland Democracy uses group discussions, in schools, houses of worship, community forums, clubs, associations, and wherever three or more are gathered to talk about public values and issues. We like to engage groups in series of discussions, cause folks to think about their own values, map out values, and tell stories that make real the values and issues we are discussing.
In 2012, Heartland Democracy will use a new grant from the F.R. Bigelow Foundation -- and possibly others -- to "scale up" this work to many more participants, with three new partner organizations, to expand and deepen and adapt the curriculum, and to train new trainers.
Framework for Governing
Heartland Democracy has been asked by several progressive leaders to coordinate a project in which we gathered the best progressive initiatives for the governor of Minnesota, articulate the common progressive values that inform and bind together those ideas, and provide them in public discussions, to candidates and the media, and to governmental officials. This project's success will depend upon the funds we raise to make it happen.
