Washington Bus Summer Fellowship

The Washington Bus Summer Fellowship is a ten-week political boot camp for 18-24-year-olds. Bus Fellows spend thesummer learning state-of-the-art campaign management, grassroots organizing, public policy formulation, andleadership skills. Alums are prepared to take leadership positions across the state.

Population(s) Served

On Halloween, hundreds of costumed volunteers hit the streets to distribute voter guides and remind voters to cast their ballots in the general election. Afterwards, the Bus and our friends throw a massive party to celebrate civic engagement at its finest. The whole event is non-partisan, all-ages, and free.
According to a recent Yale University analysis, face-to-face contact—which increases voter turnout by 8-12%—is the most effective way to get out the vote. By knocking on doors in youth-dense neighborhoods and areas with traditionally high voter drop-off, we will raise awareness of the importance of voting in local and state races. With this critical election just days after Halloween, Trick or Vote is the perfect opportunity to engage the electorate.

Population(s) Served

Getting the young vote is the foundation of our work. GOTV is what defines electoral success. More registered voters and more young people voting means more progressive candidates get elected, which means more people who work for our values.
Different GOTV methods keep the Bus fun and relevant, which is key to our outreach and volunteer recruitment. Creative thinking leads to real political results.
