Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
1. Establish headquarters at Major Owens Health and Wellness Center (Crown Heights) in 2021.
2. Expand Pride Path Workforce Development to include LGBTQ+ people of all ages by 2022.
3. Establish an LGBTQ+ mental health clinic in partnership with Callen-Lorde Community Health in 2021.
4. Build management capacity to support activity across two-sites by attracting, retaining, and developing a robust professional staff by 2022.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. Goal: Establish headquarters at Major Owens Health and Wellness Center (Crown Heights) in 2021.
Tactics:
A. Release $1m of restricted capital funding from Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams (awarded in 2020). Collaborate with BFC Partners, developer, to build-out and initially outfit.
B. Establish fund development committee to implement recommendations from CCS Fundraising toward raising $2.7MM by 2025.
C. Recruit full-time director of development.
2. Goal: Expand Pride Path Workforce Development to include LGBTQ+ people of all ages by 2022.
Tactic: Build relationships with additional workforce development funders and pilot program into additional age groups.
3. Goal: Establish an LGBTQ+ mental health clinic in partnership with Callen-Lorde Community Health by late 2021.
Tactic: Design facility to NY State and federal specifications; formally engage Callen-Lorde.
4. Goal: Build management capacity to support activity across two-sites by attracting, retaining, and developing a robust professional staff by 2022.
Tactic: Request legacy support from NYC leadership; establish relationships with management capacity investors.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are Brooklyn's only LGBTQ+ community center with intersectional relationships across sectors, organizations, and businesses to build relationships that leverage existing expertise through collaborations and partnerships. Where expertise does not currently exist or may not be as robust as necessary to meet the need, we will build capacity to address the issue. LGBTQ+ underemployment is an example of this, which is why we established the Pride Path program in 2018.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
2017: Relocated from 1,600 square feet of space at 4 MetroTech in Downtown Brooklyn to 3,100 square feet of space at Restoration Plaza in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
2018: Establish Pride Path, a paid workforce development program for underemployed LGBTQ+ folks.
2019/2021: Recruited 5 additional board members with time, talent, and treasure. Increased number of visitors from approximately 5,000 in 2018 to 7,000in 2019. Visitors increased to 10,000 in 2020. Secured $1million in funding from Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams, to build-out and initially outfit our new state of the art headquarters at the Major Owens Health and Wellness Center in 2021.
