Young Nation

The Porch on TAP artists in residence has become fundamental regular programming. Young Nation has shifted how it views and enacts the program by focusing on increasing work with local artists who are grounded in the community, to be fluid in design and timing so as to respond to current contexts and opportunities while continiuing to value and engage with artists from other communities. In the past year we have refined our program design to focus more on creation by neighbors than on creation by visitng artists. The Covid-19 pandemic noticeably curtailed our ability to provide neighborhood centered arts engagement. We are focusing on dialogue with neighbors, artists and community leaders, paying attention to their experiences and concerns, noticing where folks chose to engage and where they did not, and how they responded to the activities in which they did participate. It was through these dialogues and reflections that our vision for artists residencies have shifted deepening popular education and the accomodations for phsyical space to gather and create.
