What we aim to solve
We are inspired by the vision of a world in which debilitating poverty has finally been banished; a world in which all can avail themselves of the basic material supports of a meaningful life—food, clothing, housing, and health care; a world in which everyone can achieve a satisfactory level of education and freely pursue that which gives their life value and purpose; a world in which all people dwell in peace and harmony with one another and with the natural environment.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Food Assistance
Since our founding in 2008, Buddhist Global Relief has worked to relieve hunger by providing food to those in need. The food assistance projects fund healthy meals and clean water for the hungry, nutritional supplements for pregnant women, cooking supplies, and stipends for food preparation workers.
Women's Empowerment
One of the deepest roots of chronic hunger and malnutrition is the subordinate status of girls and women in many societies. One of the most potent antidotes to chronic hunger is improving the position of girls and women. Buddhist Global Relief provides financial support for vocational and professional training, food, tuition, housing, and health care.
Sustainable Agriculture
For the 821 million people across the globe who face chronic hunger, climate change is no theory but an ever-present reality. Climate-resilient agriculture methods can mean the difference between survival and starvation for 80 percent of the world's chronically hungry and malnourished people who live in rural areas. Buddhist Global Relief sponsors agricultural projects to improve food security, nutritional diversity, and income for those in need while honoring indigenous people and cultures.
Education
In many regions we serve, a lack of education, especially for girls and young women, exacerbates hunger and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Buddhist Global Relief is committed to providing a solid educational foundation for children worldwide by funding scholarships, housing, food, uniforms, transportation, school supplies, and physical and mental health workshops.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
BGR's long-term goals include providing food aid to people afflicted by hunger and malnutrition through offering direct food aid to people afflicted by hunger and malnutrition, developing long-term methods of sustainable food production and management appropriate to the cultures and traditions of the beneficiaries, promoting the education of girls and women, so essential in the struggle against poverty and malnutrition and through giving women an opportunity to start right livelihood projects to support their families.
We also seek to raise awareness of global hunger and advocate for an international food system that exemplifies social justice and ecological sustainability.
