One of the wonderful ways ACE MV serves our community is by supporting our high school youth with career readiness classes, programming, and resources that include all post-secondary options. Through an MV Youth grant and partnership, we hired a Career Navigation Specialist who is developing a new phone app for students to use to learn about local education and training options as well as jobs specific to their age group. Our staff is also bringing fresh programming and training to our school's guidance department, supporting them as they work to be more effective in reaching students who are not necessarily college-bound. We emphasize community involvement and keeping it local--helping students interact personally and professionally with local employers to understand options and develop their potential.

This new program matches high school juniors and seniors with employers in the community for short-term, work-and-academic-aligned internships. Project THRIVE (THRive with Internships with Vineyard Employers) introduces students to a wide range of career opportunities and we work to capture all interests--culinary, hospitality, fishing and charters, business, art, technology, trades, and more. Piloting in Spring 2021, this new program needs support as we hire a coordinator and increase our student-employer matches to 25 each year, with additional options for holiday internships for youth. Through these mentored work and learning experiences, these young women and men develop self confidence, increase their professional network, and discover their abilities and interests.

Our largest initiative is in Renewable Energy, offering a first-of-its-kind in the United States Offshore Wind Technician Certificate with a partnership with Bristol Community College. Because the nation's newest offshore wind farms will be located 14 miles south of Martha's Vineyard, we are proactively offering a college-credit certificate for turbine technicians, especially developed for Vineyard year-round residents. ACE MV values sustainability and renewable energy, and we are also developing a new Marine Science program to complement the offshore wind industry by supplying clean energy to Massachusetts.
