Mission

Mission Statement:
... that no pet owner be forced to choose inadequate treatment or euthanasia for their animal because of inability to pay for emergency care.
... that people who receive financial help for a veterinary emergency be given the opportunity to return their gift by becoming mentors, by volunteering for VEFM, or by supporting the VEFM fund financially.
... that the local pet-owning and veterinary communities need to work together to make emergency care available to all pets, regardless of the financial status of their owner.

Financial Aid for Veterinary Emergency Care

VEFM won't be able to help everyone, so the following criteria have been established for veterinary services to be eligible for financial aid:

(1) Only treatments or diagnostic procedures that are of a life-saving, urgent nature; or are geared toward immediately preventing or relieving serious pain, will be eligible.

(2) Any procedure, treatment, or diagnostic procedure which can safely be postponed until the animal's primary care veterinarian is available to arrange for further care will not be elibigle.

(4) There is a maximum amount that will be funded for any one incident (emergency visit or consecutive treatment period). It may vary from time to time and will be posted prominently on the VEFM web site: www.vefm.org(http://www.vefm.org) . Currently, that amount is $ 1,000.

All financial aid recipients agree to participate in a program called, "Give Forward to Give Back," in one of the following ways:

(1) They may become a mentor for other pet owners facing veterinary emergencies;
(2) They may volunteer for VEFM in another area of the organization; or
(3) They may volunteer at another animal-aid organization (approved by VEFM).
(4) If a recipient is unable to participate in one of these ways, he/she will pledge to support VEFM financially, in order to help future aid recipients.
