SomaliCAN Programs

Behavioral Health Services: SomaliCAN is the first community based provider of behavioral health and drugs prevention and treatment services to the Somali community. We initiated the process of certifying with ODMH and ODADAS. We will provide prevention services, community mental health education, diagnostic assessments, psychological assessments, outpatient counseling, and CPST (case management), Group and Family Counseling, Anger management and various other support groups.

Mentoring: We match mentors with people who need help in developing navigational skills and understanding the culture especially those who recently migrated to Franklin County. This service is also provided to school children.

Family Support Services: helps families with meeting basic needs such as housing, employment, food stamps, health insurance, SSI, and accessing community resources.

Employment Services: provides career assessments, job referrals, interview preparation, resume writing, job placement and job retention for immigrant families as well as low-income Americans. Our Career Counselors have established relationships with local employers and have the ability to place clients in paid jobs in the shortest time possible.

Community Education: Parenting classes, child abuse and neglect, legal aspects of child welfare, child abuse prevention and reporting and various other topics. The Somali Community does not have access to prevention and education services. SomaliCAN provides these services to help the community understand child rights and patient responsibilities.

Notary Public and Help with Paperwork: Our caseworkers help clients with paperwork of all sorts and notarize documents.

Cultural Competence Training:  Providers are educated onhow to use an interpreter more effectively, how to work with an immigrant, language identification tools and other key items that can help case managers in identifying and handling cases of child abuse in non-English speaking populations.

Translation Services: SomaliCAN provides translation services of the highest quality. Documents translated include: medical, legal, technical, financial, research and other information. We provide professional translation services at reduced rates to agencies providing services to the community.

Interpretation Services: SomaliCAN interpreters exceed industry standards and are specially trained in mental health terminology and community resources. Our interpreters are not just bilingual but also highly competent in both cultures. They perform their duties in an effective yet discreet manner that ensures that the conversation is smooth between the provider and the client.
