Equip Youth To Process & Tell Their Experiences
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Every kid – no matter their background or circumstances – deserves the right to process their experiences. Youth often have difficulty using language alone to process and share their experiences. They may feel isolated, without a wide set of options for how to express themselves, and genuine connection with others can be missing. Feelings are often left unexpressed, and collaboration suffers when youth are in silos and have difficulty discovering and creating opportunities for supporting each other. Additionally, resources and bandwidth are increasingly stretched in the education sphere. But when youth are given the opportunity to process their experiences and express their thoughts and emotions in a way that uplifts their voices and perspectives, they are significantly more likely to become effective contributors within their community. 100cameras exists on the belief that the world needs every kid to feel seen and heard and to opt-in.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The 100cameras platform provides a range of free and subsidized programming opportunities directly to educators and youth participants worldwide, all customized to meet their individual needs and structures. Our program addresses these obstacles by providing a turnkey enrichment program with options available to organizations, groups, or individuals.
Our methodology utilizes photography as a new access to social-emotional learning, community building, and young people experiencing themselves as leaders. After 14 years of research and experience, our fully customizable curriculum provides:
- Photography as a new access: Through taking pictures, students learn an entirely new medium for communication.
- Students understanding they are not alone: Our storytelling and photography program provides a safe space for students to be vulnerable with each other.
- Feelings being shared: Within just a few lessons, students in our programs are openly sharing their feelings with each other.
- Connections being made: The barriers come down, and the students see pathways for connecting and creating community.
- Established, plug-and-play enrichment program: All curriculum and supporting materials are provided, and no previous photography experience is required.
UPCOMING GOALS:
1. New program updates based on observed changes in needs among our constituents/communities served: From Educators' feedback, providing additional tailored solutions to our offerings to meet the evolving needs of the education sphere by creating tiered program services with multiple entry points.
2. To grow, expand, scale, or increase access to existing program services: To expand by increasing outreach, partnerships, and embracing innovations, our turnkey enrichment programs will continue to be a trusted partner for social-emotional learning & community building.
3. To invest in the capacity of the organization: To increase our resources and capabilities through strategic investments in technology, staff training, and infrastructure. This will enable us to more effectively deliver our programs and services, reach more youth, and have a greater impact in the communities we serve.

What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
RESEARCH
As showcased in the United Nations University Centre for Policy Research’s report, “Cradled by Conflict," renowned research supports the 100cameras specific approach and programming, proving that youth who have experienced difficulties and were given an opportunity to process and share their past challenges were impacted positively over time. They felt heard and valued and were more likely to become effective contributors to their communities.
Our method and approach were included as an example of an enrichment program that could come alongside communities and local development organizations by providing this opportunity to their youth. In addition, we are proud to share that many images taken by 100cameras students around the world were included as features in the published report.
MEASURING OUR IMPACT THROUGH DATA
Each student is navigating a wide set of life variables accompanied by the everyday experiences of living as an adolescent. The curriculum meets each participant exactly where they are at in their journey and walks alongside them at their own pace and comfort.
We use a combination of quantitative and qualitative data, including pre and post-course surveys, interviews, and student assessment observations made by local educators to measure impact.
The results of the pre and post-course surveys completed by the Extensive Program participants across all programs over the last two years show a significant impact on the students who participated in the program. This data represents youth across the United States and internationally and includes a wide set of life circumstances.
Here are a few highlights:
- 94% of students reported they were positively impacted in their belief that they can make a difference in their own lives and in their communities.
- 91.5% of students reported they were positively impacted in their ability to express themselves and their feelings.
- 79.5% reported that they were positively impacted in their ability to feel confident when sharing an idea or their thoughts with a small group of their classmates.
Providing an outlet to process experiences and express emotions through the medium of visual storytelling while fostering a connection to oneself and to others is critical. Through this new tool, youth are showing themselves that their voices and perspectives matter, and that they have the power to make a positive impact in their own lives and communities.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
From the USA to India to Cuba to Vietnam to Iraq, Uganda, and Venezuela, youth are learning how to process their experiences, express themselves, and tell the stories of their lives through our custom curriculum that teaches storytelling, self-expression, and photography skills.
To date, the 100cameras program platform has supported 32,659 participants through our Extensive Programs and the Where You Are workshop. We have launched partnerships with Apple, Paramount, Adobe, Fujifilm, ViacomCBS, Whole Foods' Foundation, Framebridge, JOBY, and more.
Our program has been shown to increase students’ ability to process and share their experiences, improve their social-emotional learning and community-building skills, and increase their self-esteem.
**100cameras was a passion project led by a dedicated group of volunteers for many years. In January 2019 after almost a decade of fine-tuning and testing the model, reaching the ability to scale with integrity through new and localized program platforms, and increasing growth and demand, 100cameras hired staff. Since then, and year over year, impact and revenue have seen significant growth as the demand and need for this program increasingly rises.
