Program 1

The Neighborhood Advocacy Center provides indigent families involved in abuse, neglect, dependency and termination of parental rights proceedings in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina free legal and social work services through a client-centered, holistic model of representation. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center seeks to reunify families where the children have been removed from the home by the Department of Social Services and to prevent the unnecessary placement and prolonged stay of children in foster care. At any given time, the Neighborhood Advocacy Center represents approximately seventy-five (75) cases.

The Neighborhood Advocacy Center provides free legal and social work services through a client-centered, holistic model of representation. That model includes a Managing Attorney and Social Worker. In addition to representing clients in the courtroom, the Managing Attorney also runs the Family Advocacy Clinic, where law students from the Charlotte School of Law intern for the Neighborhood Advocacy Center under the supervision of the Managing Attorney. The law student interns work closely with the Managing Attorney and provide legal services to the Neighborhood Advocacy Center's clients.
