the Family Coalition Center of the Potter’s Gate Charities Incorporated exists to help create a cohesive, empowered community of healthy, educated, and economically self-sufficient people working together to improve their own lives and those of their families and neighbors. As a multi-service neighborhood center, the Family Coalition leverages and coordinates resources from numerous community partners to offer programs that improve immigrant family relationships, health and wellness, adult education, job readiness, and financial literacy. The Family Coalition of Potter’s Gate Charities Incorporated, headquartered in New Jersey, Unites States of America serves families worldwide. A greater percent of families and single parent families in our communities live in poverty stricken condtions, and gang activity is widespread. The Family Coalition aims to remove the barriers to self-sufficiency that many of the people it serves, mostly immigrants, regularly face poor job prospects, insufficient English skills, little education, a lack of a familiarity with systems in United States and laws, lack of transportation and health care, mental health and substance abuse issues, and family conflict and separation. The Coalition works to remove economic barriers to success through English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, adult basic education, and computer skills classes, which increase their employability, and financial literacy classes, through which they learn about the American banking system, open bank accounts, and gain access to matched savings programs. The Family Coalition also works to remove personal and relationship barriers through basic needs assistance, mental health and substance abuse services, health services and education, marriage preparation and relationship education, after-school youth mentoring, and interventions with families experiencing domestic violence and child abuse and neglect. The family Coalition recognizes that families of all kinds do better when they live in supportive communities. This is particularly true of immigrant families, who tend to be very isolated, even from other family members overseas. The Family Coalition is well-known for its skills in combating the isolation of individual foreign-families, but also for its ability to build bridges between mainstream community institutions and families in the United States. The Family Coalitions’ many community partnerships help strengthen families not only by helping connect families with direct services and resources, but by building a community of support in the United States. Potter’s Gate Charities’ cultural sensitivity has made it a safe and home-like haven in which each person’s strengths are recognized, and in which entire families can work towards self-sufficiency, health, and well-being

The Youth Resettlement Program (YRP) provides after-school, casework, school preparation, and family enrichment services to children and their families in United States. The goal of the program is to help participants and their families to successfully adjust to life, while staying connected to their educational endeavors. The Youth Resettlement Program works toward the self-sufficiency and empowerment of youth as well as their families. Education is the key for both groups, starting with math, basic English language instruction for the youth who speak English as a second Language (ESL), which is integrated into all the program’s activities to give participants frequent opportunities to practice speaking, reading, and writing English. Further, the program teaches youth, who face serious gaps in education, fundamental, reading, writing, math, science, and computer skills, so they can more successfully integrate into school. Services to parents are essential components of the Youth Development Initiative.  Parents often experience a role-reversal upon their arrival in the United States. They do not learn English as quickly as their children, and they have a more difficult time adjusting to the culture. Many parents feel powerless when it comes to guiding their children in a new country. The program provides “Family Enrichment Workshops” about school, American culture, using public transportation, and systems, and a variety of other topics, which allow them to make more informed decisions for their families, become more involved in their children’s education, and function independently. The YRP integrates other valuable agency services, like job development and matched savings accounts, or IDAs. Family enrichment workshops on financial literacy complement these job search and asset building programs. They are adapted to specific family needs and range from recognizing and using United States’ money to purchasing one's first home. All families are taught how to create budgets and operate within the banking system. The program emphasizes planning for the future and assists families in setting and achieving individual goals. Program staff members help youth explore different careers and research the kind of education that would be necessary to obtain these jobs. The program also provides educational sessions for the whole family on standardized test preparation, college and technical school applications, saving for education (including the option of IDA enrollment), and applying for financial aid. The Youth Resettlement Program is an effective complement to the agency’s programs because it has the ability to address less pressing but important needs of foreign-families, empowering and reshaping them to maintain a better quality of life.

Adhere to uniform program performance management processes and target outcomes

The Board and Staff will work collaboratively to create an outreach plan to increase Potter’s Gate Charities’ visibility with service partners, so that Potter’s Gate Charities and its partners better understand how each can best serve the poor and vulnerable within the organization.
