What we aim to solve
With 15 village-style towns and a total population of approximately 200,000, Cape Cod is renowned for its tremendous natural beauty; prized Atlantic beaches; rich local and national cultural heritage; and captivating village character. With near-global name recognition, Cape Cod has been the subject of innumerable movies, television shows, novels, and popular music. Despite a long list of appealing characteristics and a thriving vacation scene, Cape Cod struggles to maintain a vibrant, year-round economy with sufficient job opportunities to attract and retain young people who want to live and work in the community on a permanent basis. Further, the community is on the precipice of a tremendous sea change as an unprecedented number of people (Baby Boomers) exit the workforce, leaving job opportunities and empty leadership seats behind.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Cape Cod Young Professionals, Inc. (CCYP) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to connect, engage, and advance the young workforce and future leaders of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. CCYP offers community networking events; educational workshops and conferences; and volunteer and leadership development opportunities, with the goal of improving quality of life and livelihood for young people who live and work on Cape Cod.
CCYP's 2018-2020 Strategic Plan includes the following priorities:
1. Promote Cape Cod as a vibrant place for young people to live and work, year-round
2. Advocate for policies and resources that positively impact young Cape Codders' quality of life
3. Provide opportunities for leadership and career development among Cape Cod's 45-and-under population
4. Provide high-quality, mission-driven programs
5. Sustain CCYP's growth and plan for the future by nurturing donor and member relationships; investing in volunteer and staff development; and upholding exemplary internal management practices
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
For the period of 2018-2020, CCYP will work to achieve its strategic priorities through the following strategies:
1.1 Assess CCYP's capacity to launch a multi-platform marketing campaign to showcase Cape Cod's community assets
1.2 Continue to offer and promote year-round opportunities for connection among CCYP members - current and prospective
2.1 Create an Action Plan based on CCYP's Housing Policy
2.2 Develop a Policy Framework on key areas of interest, as identified through the CCYP 2018 Community Survey
2.3 Develop an Outreach Strategy for policy and advocacy
3.1 Explore needs and options for local entrepreneur support
3.2 Help develop the next generation of volunteer leaders (nonprofit, government, corporate)
4.1 Complete an environmental scan
4.2 Create a program evaluation tool for annual assessment of programs and events
5.1 Develop a transparent and consistent application process for prospective board and committee members
5.2 Evaluate performance and future potential of the Giving Circle and Career Connect Scholarship
5.3 Update Membership, Sponsorship and contribution structure to align with current strategic plan and governance requirements.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
CCYP's staff and board are committed to making progress in the priority areas outlined above. CCYP enjoys broad community support from sponsors, donors, media and other partners, and a thriving membership (more than 1,000 members strong!). The priorities defined by CCYP were developed specifically to target areas of need identified through the organization's 2018 Community Survey - a needs assessment and satisfaction survey distributed to 400 members of the Cape Cod community.
Through its 2018-2020 strategic priorities, CCYP is working to satisfy a variety of unmet needs for Cape Cod's young residents and workforce.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
CCYP is currently focused on developing organization infrastructure in the areas of organizational performance, program evaluation, and volunteer management. Using the 2018-2020 Strategic Plan as a guide, CCYP will identify key partners and resources to help move closer toward the organization's multi-year goals and priorities.
