YWCA Dayton
Leading the way for every woman to be the driving force behind her own success
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
YWCA Dayton is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We lead the way for women to become the driving force behind their own success in a community free of racial and economic barriers, because every woman within our reach deserves to be safe, supported, and empowered to unleash her full potential.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program & Crisis Hotline
YWCA Dayton operates the only domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers in Montgomery and Preble counties as well as our region’s longest-running 24-hour, year-round crisis hotline (937-222-SAFE). Services are available to all survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking, as well as their friends and family. Shelter programming helps women and their children (up to age 18) improve their personal safety, encourages self-sufficiency, and empowers them to survive, cope, and re-enter the community safely. Sexual assault programming helps survivors process their abuse, improve their personal safety, encourages self-sufficiency, and empowers them to survive, cope, and continue in the community safely. YWCA Dayton’s domestic violence shelter and sexual assault services are accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence. We are the only COA-accredited domestic violence services site in Montgomery and Preble counties and are one of only 61 COA-accredited domestic violence services sites nationwide.
Housing
YWCA Dayton offers four housing programs for women in Montgomery County to help maintain housing and experience self-sufficiency while moving toward independence by gaining employment and/or increasing income and education, ensuring their long-term safety and quality of life. Permanent Supportive Housing is an intervention that combines affordable housing assistance with support services to build independent living and tenancy skills. HomeShare is a two-year transitional housing and supportive services program that helps women and their children achieve permanent safety and stability as they exit emergency shelter. Homeless Crisis Response Program (HCRP) & Rapid Rehousing are designed to prevent individuals and families from entering homelessness and, where homelessness does occur, to rapidly move persons from emergency shelter into permanent housing.
Girls LEAD!
Girls LEAD! of YWCA Dayton helps girls between the ages of 11-18 explore and celebrate their strengths, their voices, who they are today, and who they will become through the Girls LEAD! experience, which includes:
• A safe place where girls’ interests, opinions, and concerns are valued by adults and other girls
• Trusting relationships with adult mentors with expertise in issues girls face
• Experiences that broaden girls’ horizons and counter stereotypes
• Curricula built on research that provides age-appropriate knowledge and builds girls’ skills
• Hands-on, challenging, and fun activities that encourage girls to embrace learning
Programming is available in-school, after-school, and in Summer Camps.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Core Values:
Respect – Highest regard for staff, clients, residents, and visitors; to appreciate that everyone has worth and treating them as such.
Commitment – We pledge ourselves fully to the community we serve; our clients and residents.
Diversity – Accepting and respecting all others regardless of any difference. An environment free of hostility and intolerance where all are offered equal opportunity.
Integrity – The quality of having high moral principles, being reliable and trustworthy. It's about keeping ones word.
Philosophy Statement: In pursuit of this mission, the YWCA upholds the following values in philosophy and practice:
We believe in and promote racial justice and economic empowerment.
We believe in the unique and often unrealized role of women in community leadership.
We believe in encouraging and mentoring young women under 30 to become decision makers within the YWCA and the community at large.
We believe all women need support, encouragement and the mentoring of other women to achieve their highest potential.
We believe in and promote advocacy, community service, collaboration and using our success for the benefit of others.
We believe in and promote stewardship of resources, integrity and accountability through fiscal responsibility, self evaluation and reporting of all activities .and service outcomes.
We believe all YWCA clients, staff and volunteers are entitled to respect, equal access to quality services and fair treatment.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
YWCA Dayton is a champion of women and girls in three key ways: direct service programming, community outreach and education, and advocacy and public policy support.
Our core services:
Emergency shelter and crisis support services for women and children fleeing domestic violence
Crisis and counseling services for survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking
Affordable housing and life skills training for single women transitioning to independent living from homelessness or abuse
Housing assistance for women and children who have experienced domestic violence and families who are experiencing sudden homelessness
Girls LEAD!, an in-school, after-school, and summer camp empowerment and education program for girls 11-18
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
YWCA Dayton has a diverse staff passionate about our mission — eliminating racism and empowering women — for all our programs and departments in Montgomery and Preble counties. We also have a dedicated Board of Directors who serve as organization ambassadors, and strong community relationships that support our work.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Every year, YWCA Dayton publishes an annual impact report, summarizing the past year's accomplishments. You can view it online at https://www.ywcadayton.org/news-events/newsletter-annual-report/.
