What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Bachelor of Fine Arts

CCAD offers a four-year program of study leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in nine distinct majors: advertising and graphic design, animation, cinematic arts, fashion design, fine arts, illustration, industrial design, interior design, and photography. The program enrolls nearly 1,300 students taught by nearly 200 faculty members. Faculty and administration are deeply engaged with the employer community to ensure that the applied arts curricula remain relevant to employer needs.  A full complement of liberal arts courses are integrated with all programs, an imperative for the development of well-rounded visual artists.

Population(s) Served

The Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts: New Projects utilizes a structure that is rare in the United States.  Drawing its inspiration from the way artists actually work, the project-based, multi-disciplinary program is designed to develop not just candidates’ artistic skills, but also their skills in planning, communications, and leadershias well as installation and digital- and time-based media, participate together in a two-year, 60-hour curriculum that emphasizes the artist’s public as well as private creative roles. MFA students work with selected CCAD faculty to propose, develop, and execute individual projects. Additionally, each student works with an off-campus mentor or participates in a practicum experience. The curriculum concludes with a thesis project, written thesis paper, and oral defense.

Population(s) Served

Continuing and Professional Studies lectures, weekend workshops, and courses at CCAD are open to all ages and skill levels of the community and cover a wide range of learning needs, such as business-related courses for professional artists, continuing education opportunities for art educators, online digital skill courses for designers, and studio courses such as painting, photography, drawing, and ceramics for both beginners as well as more experienced artists.
Courses for youth include Saturday Morning Art Classes offered during the school year and Creative Summer Workshops for grades 1-12, that offer quality art instruction for interested and gifted students throughout central Ohio.  Modeled after CCAD's renowned college foundation studies, the program enables youth to develop superior skills and gain a strong background in the visual arts.
College PreView at CCAD offers high school students from around the country an intensive three-week on-campus program of courses and events. They work with professional artists, build their portfolios, exhibit their work, and explore Columbus and its art scene.

Population(s) Served

The CCAD MindMarket comprises three distinct functions to further CCAD's role in the creative economy - a business incubator, a design lab and a thought lab.  Businesses and organizations can access the talent and creativity of CCAD faculty, students and incubator members, while artists and designers learn the business side of their craft.

Population(s) Served

CCAD, through its public outreach programs of Visiting Artists and Exhibitions, strives to offer local residents a gateway to the college through unique, thoughtful, and confident approaches to art and design, fostering a community invested in both creativity and innovation. The Visiting Artists and Exhibitions departments drew nearly 10,000 visitors to the campus during the 2011-12 academic year to view the work of a wide range of contemporary local and international artists and to attend public lectures and other free events given by the artists.
