Mission

Our mission is to make available information, services, projects, and networking opportunities for those interested in exploring ecologically and economically sustainable ways of thinking, living and interacting in our community.

Notes from the nonprofit

The Center for Sustainable Living invites you to collaborate with us in creating a more beautiful, more resilient world. We are a permaculture-based institute with more than 30 years of experience in promoting sustainable living and community engagement with caring for our Earth. In that time, more than 15 ongoing projects inspired by passionate individuals have arisen. These projects are at the heart of the Center for Sustainable Living. Please see a list of our projects within the Programs section.

The Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market exists to extend the farmers’ market season and increase the availability of fresh produce and other local products throughout the four seasons of the year. We seek to encourage direct contact between producer and consumer and increase understanding of local food economy issues. We strive to produce and provide the greatest possible varieties of local foods while working together in a cooperative atmosphere to ensure the success of the market. We also support a program to offer local healthy foods to low income families.

The Habitat Stewards are a group dedicated to helping community members create wildlife habitat in their backyards, schoolgrounds, church properties, and anywhere else there is a bit of land. They continue to provide information about creating a backyard habitat in the form of handouts, tours, workshops, and habitat steward trainings.
