Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Community Bike Project
Education in bike repair and maintenance to promote bicycles as a means of transportation.
Southern Indiana Renewable Energy Network (SIREN)
SIREN, the Southern Indiana Renewable Energy Network, is a non-profit promoter of the adoption of solar energy. We share the vision of Thomas Edison, who pioneered the electric power system to replace the burning of fossil fuels.
Discardia
Recycle and reuse materials and clothing. Teaching community members how to sow and mend materials. Discardia features articles designed and made locally from upcycled materials. Support local artists and be kind to the environment by buying unique upcycled art, crafts, clothing and jewelry from Discardia.
Winter Farmers Market
The Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market exists to extend the farmers’ market season and increase the availability of fresh produce and other local products throughout the four seasons of the year. We seek to encourage direct contact between producer and consumer and increase understanding of local food economy issues. We strive to produce and provide the greatest possible varieties of local foods while working together in a cooperative atmosphere to ensure the success of the market. We also support a program to offer local healthy foods to low income families.
Habitat Stewards
The Habitat Stewards are a group dedicated to helping community members create wildlife habitat in their backyards, schoolgrounds, church properties, and anywhere else there is a bit of land. The group originally focused on getting Bloomington certified as a Wildlife Community Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation in 2008. They continue to provide information about creating a backyard habitat in the form of handouts, tours, workshops, and habitat steward trainings.
BloomingVeg
BloomingVeg is an all-ages social and advocacy group for vegetarians, vegans, and veggie-lovers alike in Bloomington, Indiana!
Bring Your Bag Bloomington (BYBB)
Bring your Bag Bloomington (BYBB) is a group of concerned citizens formed by the Center for Sustainable Living in June 2014. Our goal is to introduce a city ordinance to address the issue of single-use plastic bags, by implementing a ban and/or fee on bags.
Glenn Carter Memorial Tool Share
The tool collection of Glenn Carter, a local craftsman, turned into a resource for the community, open for anyone to use and share the tools.
The Overlook
A collective of artists, inventors, non-profits, community organizers, and makers creating space in Bloomington, Indiana with a focus on art and sustainability.
