Victim/Shelter/Crisis Services

Victim and Shelter Services- This service provides temporary (generally thirty days or less) safe living arrangements for victims of domestic violence and their custodial children. Clients who utilize the shelter will receive emergency clothing and supplies, education and information about domestic violence, referrals to social and legal services, assistance in searching for safe, permanent housing, and transportation. While staying at the shelter, survivors also will receive one hour group counseling once a week, life skills class once a week and a support group once a week. Several other services may be offered depending on the clients’ needs, including assistance with employment searches, securing reliable transportation (e.g. purchasing own vehicle), and acquiring computer skills.

Crisis Services- The agency offers a 24-hour crisis hotline which allow victims of domestic violence to contact a professional at any time during a crisis. Staff helps a person create a safety plan, provides resources and alternatives if staying in the shelter is not the caller’s goal. Additionally, if a person needs material goods to get out of a crisis, the staff will try to arrange it. For example, if a person has recently moved away from an abusive relationship and used all of his or her money for rent and utilities but needs diapers, underwear or shoes for themselves or their family, the staff will try to either find that item in the shelter’s donated item garage or connect him or her to another community agency that could.

A Friend's House provides quality court advocacy to any victim of domestic violence in the city of London, and accompaniment for any victim or shelter resident of any legal issue.
