Mission

Our mission is 'to eliminate waste by inspiring our community to rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle.' For 21 years, we operated the local transfer station providing opportunities to recycle more than 40 materials and The Rcfindcry, a reuse thrift store to recirculate discarded but useable materials back into the community. Although we lost our contract to operate the county's facility on 12/31/18, we continue to encourage citizens and visitors to take responsibility for the waste they generate.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Program 1

CREATIVE REUSE: At The Refindery reuse thrift store, useable items donated by the public and/or diverted from the trash were sold to support recycling and community outreach programs. Items sold include used household goods, furniture, small appliances, books and other media, electronics, building materials, tools and fixtures. Customers included medium and low income families, artists, bargain hunters, 'do-it-yourself' craftsmen and seasonal visitors. This program service closed 12/31/18.

Expenses

Revenue
$123,872

RECYCLING SERVICES: We encouraged recycling by intercepting and diverting recyclable materials from trash and through ongoing engagement with the publlc. Households and businesses dropped off paper, plastics, metals, glass, paint, electronics, yard debris and other recyclable materials, which they separated into 40+ categories to maximize value when marketed to brokers and other recycled material buyers.

Expenses
$99,423
Revenue
$77,847

TRANSFER STATION: CARTM managed the Manzanita Transfer Station for Tillamook County under a franchise agreement that was terminated by the County in December 2018. Households and businesses self-hauled trash to our facility. Customers were actively encouraged to separate reusable and recyclable materials from trash to eliminate waste, and to save them monry on disposal fees. This reduced the amount sent to the landfill and retained the intrinsic value of already-manufactured materials.

Expenses
$109,172
Revenue
$111,643
