Mission

Our goal is three fold: To draw the very best investigators into a collaborative and coordinated effort to understand the causes of neurodegenerative diseases. To bring to this effort a focus on translational research whereby insight into the working of the CNS and its failure in neurodegenerative diseases can be used to develop clinically relevant interventions. And to develop a multi-disease expertise whereby insights, experimental approaches, tools and techniques developed in response to one disease are relevant to other neurodegenerative diseases.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center provides state-of-the art facilities, technical expertise and intellectual support for the neurodegenerative disease research community. They also provide access to a series of educational, training and funding opportunities.

The Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center was founded in spring 2001 with a little under 5,000 sq.ft. of space. Today, we have 9,070 sq.ft., of which just 5.2% is administrative. Currently, An indication of the continuing support of the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center by HMS and the affiliated hospitals is that none of the Center?s space attracts customary overhead or maintenance charges.

This space is spread across our community. Although this presents an administrative and communications challenge, this is balanced by the value of having the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center?s resources physically close to many institutions and departments from across our wide community, helping to foster a sense of collaboration and cooperation.
