What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, founded in 1910 and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an outdoor-based leadership and educational program for youth ages 6-21 years to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participation citizenship and to develop personal fitness. Elements of the Scouting program include camping and adventure, youth leadership training, caring and nurturing relationships with adults and peers, and positive, educational and creative uses of time in a fun-filled and adventurous setting. Boy Scouts of America is the only youth organization chartered by Congress as an educational program. All programs contain leadership, character development and community service elements and abide by the Scout Oath and Scout Law. They include: Cub Scouts serving youth ages 5-10 years old both girls and boys (8,460 members). Scouts BSA serving youth between the ages of 11-17 years old girls and boys (3,879 members). Exploring, Venturing, and Sea Sco

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations, providing programs for young people that build character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and develops personal fitness. For more than 100 years, Boy Scouts of America has helped build future leaders by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.

CUB SCOUTS
Cub Scouts do fun things with other kids! They get to wear a cool uniform, go places, and see things. They play all kinds of sports and build things, like race cars and bird houses. Want to learn a secret code? Want to learn about wild animals? The program is for boys and girls 5-years-old to 10-years-old.

SCOUTS BSA
Scouting, one of the traditional membership divisions of the Boy Scouts of America, is available to boys (and girls starting 2019) who have earned the Arrow of Light rank and are at least 10 years old or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old. The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship and personal fitness.

VENTURING
You love exploring your passions, making new friends, and discovering the world. You're always looking for an adventure. Rappelling a cliff. Perfecting your shot. Designing a robot. Kayaking into the sunset. Exploring your faith. Volunteering at an animal shelter. The choice is yours! Each activity provides an opportunity to shine and learn more about yourself and the world around you. Venturing is youth-led and youth-inspired.

SEA SCOUTS
Sea Scouts is a specialized program, organized to address a youth members' boating skills and promote knowledge of our maritime heritage.

EXPLORING
Exploring provides exciting activities and one-on-one mentorship for youth looking to discover their future. Whether you’re a local organization looking to strengthen the community or a young person wanting to uncover the possibilities of your future, Exploring is a great place to start.
