Scholarships and Improvements to School Buildings

Elementary school and junior high school students in the poorest areas of Vietnam are helped with scholarships to go to school as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam does not provide education to children after the fourth grade.   In addition, the DOVE Fund provides maintenance and repairs to the school buildings, and also provides funding for the purchase of supplies, as well as computer hardware and software.

Population(s) Served

The DOVE Fund provides loans to women (primarily) to assist them in supporting their families.  In addition, we provide training to help them be successful in their businesses.  Some examples of financing include: equipment and supplies for food and meal preparation along with training on food safety and hygiene; agriculture and livestock purchases along with training on farming methods; and motorcycles for transportation to remote work site.

Population(s) Served

This program was in collaboration with East Meets West.  Dentists, Hygienists, and volunteers from the United States traveled to Quang Tri province of Vietnam to provide dental services to 500 students at Quang Tri Elementary School.  Program dollars purchased disposable supplies, fillings, anesthetics, and tools for use during the dental visits.

Population(s) Served

Through the lengthy research and testing of various solar light models, we were able to purchase a reliable unit with lights bright enough for reading. We work with our local project coordinator in Vietnam who assists us with the logistics and distribution process - including finding suitable recipients. The first group of recipients were Bui Thi Tam high school students and their families who would receive the solar lights.

After the first unit was installed, the owner was so excited he went with us from home to home and helped install the rest of the systems! Before long we had about 100 villagers following us to each home to see the lights being installed. It was an exciting day in the rural village of Hai Lang. We knew the program would be successful when we saw the smiles and reactions of the villagers when the lights began to glow. Now, hundreds of village homes are lighted - surrounded by the darkness of the rural rice fields.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We are building schools, day care centers so parents can work or seek employment, provide funding for micro finance programs for poor women, build medical clinics, provide funding for assistance to clinics for the blind, scholarships, clean water projects, latrine projects for villages, leprosy aid, medical clinics and provide computers to schools for education.

The DOVE Fund has an in-country employee to monitor our projects. We make annual trips to Vietnam to visit our projects to make sure our financial resources are being used properly and that our schools are being maintained at acceptable levels.

The Dove Fund has an excellent relationship with the government of Vietnam at the national and local levels. Our in-country employee monitors our projects to successful completion. We have in-country relationships with friends that we developed over the years that support the DOVE fund when needed.

Since its founding The D.O.V.E. Fund has built over 44 schools, including 11 daycare centers, three medical clinics, five major water projects, conducted medical missions, implemented an Emergency Medicine Residency Program and provided micro-finance programs for the poorest women in Quang Tri Province. The D.O.V.E. Fund has also provided tuition assistance to more than 500 children, conducted workshops for English teachers, purchased computers, industrial sewing machines and other equipment for the various schools they have built. We have also and provided Braille computers and a Braille printer for the Hue School for the Blind and funded two computer centers for high schools. Recently, 50 latrines were installed in Hai An commune by The D.O.V.E. Fund in cooperation with Pulppy Company in Vietnam to provide hygienic conditions that reduce illness throughout the region.
