Mission

The Virtual Scavengers Project protects the environment, closes the technology gap and builds community through workforce development by collecting refurbishing and giving away used computers. In the process of doing this we offer free PC Tech training to unemployed, disabled and economically disadvantage inner-city residents.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Chapter 31 Disabled Veterans Apprenticeship Program (weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 physical ability and areas of interest. After 20 hours each volunteer is given a non-working computer. We then take them through the process of getting that computer up and running and modified to their satisfaction, at which point they take the computer. PC Tech Internship Program (weekdays 10:00 a.m. to 1:00) Students in Training Inc.’s PC Tech program spend a portion of their training time working on our computers to see how the knowledge they have attained in their classes is applied in a normal working environment. Many of these students then return at the end of their classroom training for an additional 3-weeks internshirepairs, maintenance and upgrades. Coming Programs: Basic PC Maintenance Clinic (begins July 30,2003) Networking and Security Clinic (begins Fall 2003) Software Applications (begins Fall 2003) Recycling and Nonprofit Entrepreneurship Internships (begin January 2004)
