Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
The Family Institute at Northwestern University
The Family Institute at Northwestern University provides counseling and psychotherapy for families, couples and individuals across the economic and cultural spectrum. Its clinical services include a senior therapist practice, a sliding-fee clinic and a Community Outreach Program serving low-income children and parents in disadvantaged neighborhoods. The Family Institute has offices in downtown Chicago, Evanston and suburban Cook County.
The Family Institute also houses and manages Northwestern University's Center for Applied Psychological and Family Studies, whose primary activities are graduate education and research. Educational programs include Northwestern University's Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Master of Science in Marital and Family Therapy. The Family Institute also offers postgraduate Fellowships, which provide advanced intensive training for promising mental health clinicians and researchers who have completed Master's or PhD programs.
In addition, The Family Institute is a training site for Northwestern University doctoral candidates in clinical psychology and for psychiatric residents enrolled in Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine.
The Research Program--also carried out in conjunction with Northwestern University--scientifically investigates interventions in order to refine mental health treatments and improve outcomes. Current research projects include studies focused on measuring changes during the therapeutic process, early childhood preventive intervention, and generalized anxiety disorder.

The Family Institute is deeply committed to our mission of strengthening and healing families from all walks of life. Graduate Education
The Family Institute is committed to educating and training the next generation of mental health practitioners through our two education programs: Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy
Research
The Family Institute is committed to conducting cutting-edge, innovative research projects to help discover how people actually change in therapy and what therapists do to facilitate that change.
