Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Goals
YSB's services are geared toward providing early identification and treatment of underlying issues that cause behavioral problems and emotional distress. Successful detection and treatment can dramatically reduce costs associated with more expensive forms of intensive-based treatments and repeated juvenile delinquency. Redirecting the lives of “at risk" youth and empowering them to achieve is not only helpful to the family, but to our community as well. YSB provides reduced-cost services to DeKalb County residents, which means more people have access to the help they need. No one is turned away for an inability to pay.

Our programs are designed to support our goals:

1. Impact Education
Increase school success, empower youth to make better choices
Decrease school suspension

2. Impact Home Environment
Improve mental health, family relationships, youth assets & protective factors
Reduce family stress and conflict

3. Impact Our Community
Reduce costs associated with long-term care of mental health issues and legal/court costs
Reduce teen alcohol/drug use, teen violence, juvenile crime
Provide reduced-cost services to DeKalb County residents
Help create safer neighborhoods, greater property value
Increase community volunteerism

The Youth Service Bureau has become a trusted social service organization in DeKalb County and as a result, we also offer community presentations to address any number of topics and issues facing youth and families. We present through schools, community organizations, churches, libraries, for-profit, and non-profit companies.

The Early Risk Assessment Program (ERAP), which YSB is a part of, won a statewide award from the Illinois Probation and Court Services Association (IPSCA). Over the last year, we were able to increase screening and appropriate referrals for first-time juvenile offenders, providing services to 92 youth who otherwise would have been part of the Juvenile Court Services.
YSB has bilingual services available for our Spanish-speaking families, and served 68 Hispanic families in fiscal year 2016.
VolunTEEN partnered with DeKalb County Community Gardens at the Mayor's Garden, helped with a health fair for kids, and helped distribute food with a mobile food pantry.
Presented our anti-bullying curriculum in schools and summer camps.
YSB assisted 50 youth who had refused to return home, ran away from home, or were in a locked-out crisis situation during fiscal year 2016.
