What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Education
Keshet manages therapeutic day schools at seven locations in Chicago and the northern suburbs for preschool through high school/transition. Keshet’s approach to education maximizes each student’s potential while fostering caring communities in which students learn and grow. Curriculum has a dual focus of academics and daily living skills with integration into the community. Most youth with disabilities receive extensive therapies, often during after-school hours, which can be burdensome on students and their families. Keshet’s schools incorporates those therapies into the school day by having social workers and occupational, physical and speech therapists on staff.
Recreation
Experiencing positive peer interaction and developing social skills while having fun is at the heart of Keshet’s recreation programs. During the school year, Keshet offers buddy programs in music and sports where kids and adults with disabilities are paired with typically developing buddies who play alongside them. Recreation programs also include Sunday school, parents’ night out and school day off activities. Keshet’s most significant recreation program is summer camp, where more than 220 kids and teens with disabilities are included alongside their typically developing peers for summer fun and friendship.
Adults & Employment
Keshet’s adult day program, GADOL, is designed to fill a void in the community by offering a meaningful day for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. GADOL balances vocational/life skills training with the opportunity for socialization, recreation, and physical exercise to further increase our adult participants' overall quality of life. Utilizing both group and individual sessions, the staff provide daily living skills training, a job readiness curriculum and sessions on setting and meeting personal goals and aspirations. Every GADOL team member is employed and/or volunteers in the local community.
Residential
Keshet’s newest endeavor, MY Life, provides supported housing for adults with disabilities to live independent lives. Residents are actively engaged in community life. Each resident is employed or volunteers during the week, and spends weekends and evenings enjoying social outings and other activities.
