Sacred Valley Dormitory Build 2019

Our 2019 project, from September 19 to October 2, will be in the Sacred Valley, Peru. We will be helping to complete the interior build out and repairs for two dormitories in Calca and Ollantaytambo, Peru, as well as beginning construction on a small residence for the the program director. The dormitories provide the opportunity for indigenous girls living in remote Andean communities to live in the urban centers near schools where they are able to receive a secondary education that would otherwise not be available to them. Currently each dormitory houses twenty girls, ranging from 11 to 17 years of age. An additional ten girls come for tutoring and mentorship. Each dorm has a housemother who lives at the home to provide support and assistance in all aspects of life. Currently the Sacred Valley Project has two dormitories, each supporting separate communities. One dormitory is located in Ollantaytambo, and the other about an hour and a half away in Calca. Some of the girls commute from as far away as a fifteen hour trek from their home village in the Andes. We currently have 21 volunteers signed up from USA, UK, Ireland, Australia, & China, but have the capacity to take on 14 additional volunteers. We are specifically looking for specialized skills including a solar water heater specialist, wind turbine engineer, grey water treatment specialist, plumbers and electricians.
