Wood-Heights Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc. is an organization comprised of dedicated, community oriented Emergency Medical Professionals. Our mission is to render emergency medical care to our 160,000 + residents who reside in Woodside and Jackson Heights. Wood Heights is committed to offering professional assistance to neighboring FDNY EMS battalions, FDNY Engine/Ladder companies, NYPD Precincts and Correctional Facilities. We are looking to bring health awareness and preparedness programs to our local population, along with various training opportunities for the community. We request any amount of funding to help Wood Heights reach our goal of purchasing our first ambulance and acquisition of a base of operations.Our service is comprised of all volunteers. There are twenty five members who will provide an average of twenty calls every day. We were founded in April 2008 due to an obvious need of a community oriented ambulance service. We are actively working to open Wood-Heights Volunteer Ambulance Corps along with the tireless efforts, dedication and support from our membership and the community so that we can provide this much needed service to the community. We will respond to all type of calls including transportation needs for the local nursing homes and homebound citizens. Our staff is appropriately certified in the state of New York as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) or Paramedics. We have had two hospitals recently close in Queens (Mary Immaculate Hospital and St John’s Hospital) which both had ambulances in the 911 system. Due to this reason, there has been a rise in call volume and longer wait time for ambulance. When we open, some call volume will be eliminated and wait time for an ambulance will decrease.
