The National Employment and Training Program

The National Employment and Training Program provides competitive employment opportunities to adults with disabilities.

Population(s) Served

The goal of The Arc’s advocacy services is to assist individuals and their families in becoming effective self-advocates by increasing their knowledge of personal choice, and advancing their independence. The Arc provides information and referral services, access to community resources, and access to trainings, as well as one-on-one advocacy in the following areas:



Assistance with applying for Entitlement Programs such as Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, Food Assistance, and Adult Home Help (fees may apply)
Consultation for Alternatives to Guardianship and guardianship support (fees may apply)
Housing Resources
Community Inclusion and Recreational Services
Community Mental Health and Person Centered Planning
Medicaid Fair Hearings

The Arc of Macomb County partners with Michigan Alliance for Families to provide information, support, and education for families who have children (birth through 26 years of age) who receive (or may be eligible to receive) special education services

Population(s) Served

The Arc believes that people belong in their own communities and focuses on providing the support needed for individuals to live as independently as possible. These supports combine the individual’s strengths with opportunities for growth to grant them maximum control of their lives. Supports may include residential, community inclusion, and respite services, as indicated in their person centered plan through Community Mental Health.



Residential supports ensure that individuals have the skills and supports to live as independently as possible in a home of their choice. The Arc provides staff to assist individuals in their family homes or in their own homes by training, reminding, observing, guiding, and supporting them with daily activities such as shopping, housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, banking, and personal care.


Community inclusion services are available to help individuals to participate more fully in the community by providing opportunities for group or independe

The Hugos Plan offers persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families a formal and comprehensive plan of lifetime advocacy designed both to secure appropriate services throughout the individual’s life and to provide consistent follow-up with the individual and service providers.



The Hugos Plan is designed to meet the needs of the individual by utilizing all available community resources. A flexible individual Plan of Service (POS) is developed, based on the needs and wishes of the participant and his/her family, and will be used to determine necessary supports and services.



The Hugos Plan exists to provide a sense of security to parents and families when they become disabled or are otherwise unable to handle their own affairs or those of their family member with an intellectual or developmental disability. When a parent of an individual has passed away, the Hugos Plan will cooperate with remaining family members and others in a consultative capacity

Population(s) Served

The Arc serves as Representative Payee for individuals receiving Social Security benefits. We work with individuals and their support providers to develop a budget to ensure that needs for housing, food, and clothing are met. Once the basics are addressed, we will help budget monthly income to pay past due bills, develop plans for future expenditures, and provide spending money, all in conjunction with the individual’s hopes, wishes, and desires

Population(s) Served

The Arc provides employment training services and independent living classes designed to provide individuals with the tools to achieve their personal & employment goals. Individuals will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities throughout their day that include a wide range of activities of daily living, employment skills, educational experiences, and will be customized to support each individual’s personal outcomes.

Our independent living skills classes will help participants achieve their mental and physical potential to live safely and independently. The classes will cover:

Daily Living Skills – money management, nutrition, time management, self advocacy, communication and interpersonal skills, technology and self-advocacy.
Employment Skills Training Program – problem solving, teamwork, professionalism and soft skills. After assessing skills and interests through this training, participants will be referred to open a case with Michigan Rehabilitative Services
