Tecumseh Area Historical Society
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
As with many volunteer organizations, the greatest need is volunteers that will be able to learn about the various exhibits and history of the community to keep the museum doors open and share this information with the general public. Our second need for the organization is to complete the construction of new front steps and handicapped ramp published to our community and membership by raising the sufficient funds to complete this project.
Our programs

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To obtain and train additional members of the organization to be docents in the museum, showing them how to sell objects in the giftshop area, talking with the public about the various displays, and how to take in donations that people will bring in during the open hours are some of the goals we aim to achieve.
Continue to pursue grant funds, as available, and donor support to raise the sufficient funds for the construction project. Get bid documents out to contractors and work with them to accomplish the goal.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Four new members have joined as a result of a press release in the local newspaper. We have asked them to sign up with an experienced member to learn more about the museum. They have been coming in regularly and we have given them light jobs to undertake while in attendance to learn more about the museum.
A campaign for the purchase of pavers for the sidewalk area in front of the new steps is almost complete. Notices on Facebook and in our newsletter along with our annual donation drive has brought in several donations. Newspaper articles assist and grant writing to area businesses and foundations has been helpful in raising funds.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
TAHS has a strong base of members that are interested in keeping the museum open to the public. Our visitors are interested in the changing of exhibits and the donation of items to add to the collections. Throughout the town are historical buildings and homes that attract visitors to the area, along with a strong downtown business section that pull together in various city-wide events and activities to entertain and entice visitors. The museum participates in most of these events and activities.
The board members have a variety of skills that they bring to the table and belong to other organizations in the community that allow them to speak about the museum and solicit donations.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In 2022 the museum raised over $150,000 toward the removal and replacement of the building's back outside wall that was bowing and decaying. Our museum was built in 1913 and this wall had been through many changes of seasons.
Additional members have joined the organization as a result of fundraising for the back wall construction and the handicapped ramp construction projects.
