Mission

Identify outstanding high school sophomores throughout Wisconsin for being responsible citizens in their community and/or school and provide them with the opportunity & encouragement to recognize their leadership potential. We fulfill this mission through an annual 3-day leadership seminar that is provided at no cost to the students or schools. WILS encourages leadership development through emphasis on our four pillars: Responsibility, Service, Inclusiveness & Decision Making. After the seminar, participants become members of the WILS Alumni Association where they are able to continue on a path that fosters the growth & development of their leadership skills, volunteerism, & community involvement by participating in leadership retreats and volunteering over 1,400 hours together annually.

Wisconsin Leadership Seminar

WILS coordinates an annual 3-day leadership seminar for high school sophomores from Wisconsin and Upper Michigan encouraging leadership development through emphasis on personal responsibility, volunteerism, inclusiveness and decision making.  Each high school in the state nominates one sophomore leader to represent their school each year. The seminar is offered at no charge to the students or their schools because we believe our youth should be provided development opportunities based on their character and potential, not their economic means. Our organization is 100% volunteer run. Our main seminar costs include lodging, meeting space, meals, printing and postage.
After seminar our young leaders are invited to join our Alumni Association which is run by a young leaders board of high school and college students who plan ongoing leadership development conferences, volunteer service projects and social activities.

Population(s) Served

WILS's mission is carried on throughout the year and into future seminars through our Alumni Association. The alumni hold 2-3 annual reunions, publish 3 newsletters per year, and perform community service between seminars in order to maintain the WILS spirit and to continue friendships. The Alumni Association also actively fundraises to provide sponsorships for the seminar and awards two $500 college scholarships each year.
