Feed My Starving Children
Turn hunger into hope with your own two hands.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and undernutrition. Hunger is still a factor related to nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old. At least 10,000 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition. Combating malnutrition in all its forms is one of the greatest global health challenges.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
FEEDING KIDS. FEEDING SPIRITS. EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES. Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) believes hope starts with food. FMSC meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement common nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition. Good nutrition allows children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential. We work with food distribution partners that stay with communities for the long haul, empowering them to move from relief to development. Meals are primarily hand packed by one of the many groups of U.S. volunteers who give their time and effort each year to bring hope to hundreds of thousands of children (and vulnerable adults) that have no access to a consistent supply of nutritious food, and suffer from the effects of malnourishment
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In order to educate as many people as possible on global hunger and to empower them to make a tangible impact on a major global issue, FMSC engages local volunteers in its meal packing programs. These volunteers gather at permanent facilities and MobilePack events around the United States, where they package meals scientifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of children who have experienced chronic hunger. FMSC's distribution model ensures that food has the best chance of reaching the children who need it most by collaborating with an exceptional network of missions and humanitarian organizations who are also seeking to improve the lives of children worldwide. FMSC works with food distribution partners that are serving in places where malnutrition prevents healthy child development and the progress of communities. Partners are embedded in the communities that they serve and can ensure that meals reach those who need them most. FMSC donates its meals, (partners cover shipping costs), enabling distribution partners to devote their resources to education, health care, ministry, agriculture and microbusiness. FMSC partners use meals in Churches/places of worship, Feeding centers, Orphanages, Homes, Health clinics and Community centers.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
FMSC has shipped more than 4 billion meals in its 37 year history. An astonishing 99.8% of all meals shipped in its history have successfully reached their intended destinations in some of the worlds most difficult-to-reach places. Valuing financial integrity, FMSC spends more than 90% of total donations directly on feeding the hungry and has earned the highest four-star rating from Charity Navigator for 17 years. In fiscal year 2022-23, FMSC sent more than 440 million nutritious, volunteer-packed meals to 72 partners in 65 different countries and welcomed more than 900,000 volunteers at its meal packing sessions through its permanent sites and MobilePack events around the country. These numbers indicate FMSC is capable of producing and distributing the meals needed to achieve its goals and, over time, accomplish its mission.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
FMSC requires distribution partners to report on progress made in a way that is appropriate to their context and programming. For example, one partner study indicated that 93% of the previously malnourished children served in an outreach program supported by FMSC meals reached a healthy body weight within four months and maintained a healthy body weight for two years after completing the program. Other partner reports indicate that FMSC meals supported the educational progress of the children served by a school feeding program.
FMSC aims to bring increased food security to the communities served, which will result in improved health, educational achievement, and other measures of well-being. In addition, FMSC expects to see increased capacity among distribution partners to carry out community development work and resilience within communities, including economic improvements.
