Collaborative, Community-Based Participatory Research

HACER’s research work is rooted in community-based participatory research. This type of research is a cooperative, co-learning process that shifts the balance of power between researcher and subjects, enabling participants to actively engage and fully share their experiences and knowledge. HACER’s research is done through in-depth interviews and focus groups with participants in the language they feel most comfortable speaking. These methods go beyond question and answer sessions, including time to define the issue or problem and brainstorm solutions that would best fit the community. Participants in our projects are able to shape discourse on community issues, forming them into tangible solutions.

Population(s) Served

HACER offers evaluation services to support other community based organization's work. This work includes survey design and implementation, statistical data analysis, and community assessments including event observations and in-depth participant interviews. This work benefits the organization by allowing them to improve their program, their participant’s experience and takeaway, and be able to report the evaluation metrics to their funders.

Population(s) Served

HACER provides Spanish and English language leadership training. These trainings consist of three day retreats, covering finance, governance, grant writing, and other topics specific to the nonprofit sector. Participants learn from instructors and the other participants, gaining leadership skills and specific tools.
