Mission

Kashmir Family Aid's primary goal is to counter poverty in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir by providing secular education to children displaced by the 2005 earthquake. No politics. No religion. The 2005 quake killed at least 73,000, left 3 million homeless and destroyed 8,000 of the region's 11,000 primary and secondary schools.

Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

We have planned 13 projects ranging from building school bathrooms and sponsoring children, to supporting clinics. Other projects include sponsoring girls' education, building a job center for young women to learn a trade, and funding a clinic that will provide basic services to men and women who must travel up to four hours for the nearest doctor - including for childbirth services. One of our main projects available for corporate sponsorship is to construct a building for orphans who currently study in tents because the 2005 earthquake destroyed their former building - crushing dozens of students. This school is 20 kilometers north of Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir, on the Nellum River. Teachers there make less than $60 a month and have not been paid for months. We also plan to build bathrooms (that, in one school, has 400 students to one toilet).
