Education

The American Royal education programs are the cornerstone of our mission. A few of those prominent programs are detailed below. The flagship educational event of the American Royal season is the Field Trip formerly known as School Tours. We open our doors to more than 5,000 school-age youth. The tours are hosted for four days and offer students, educators and parents the opportunity to learn more about food and agriculture through exhibits. The American Royal’s AgSTEM Explorer Program was created to introduce middle school students to agriculture through career exploration, experiential learning, and industry exposure.Neighborhood Schools Program brings the farm and ranch into the classroom, and takes students out of the classroom for fun, eye-opening experiential learning.Youth Leadership Day provides career and professional development sessions, including job interview sessions that provide written and verbal feedback, as well as networking opportunities.

American Royal events and educational programs are made possible due to the commitment of hundreds of volunteers who serve in roles as Board members, committee and planning leadership, and event support. These dedicated volunteers allow events to be executed with limited financial resources.Throughout the year, roughly 600 volunteers offset 6,792 employee hours during events and education programs. This totals $58,411.20 of savings for the organization (based on Missouri minimum wage rates). Volunteers are sourced through partner organizations, association members, community servants, and American Royal alumni. Without the volunteer army the American Royal would not be able to successfully execute its prestigious programs and events.
