Giving Horses a Chance At a Better Life
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
HHER has built an excellent base of support by offering family-friendly horse experiences that don’t require a long-term commitment to riding lessons.1) We are working to address cash flow planning so that we can ensure that we have the reserves to more easily financially cover the months that the weather is bad and there are less outside fundraising events. 2) We need to strengthen our board. 3) We need a standard way to train volunteers.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goals are to:
1) Establish a method for budget vs actuals financial planning.
2) Add 3 more board members.
3) Develop a standard way to obtain volunteers.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1) To establish budget versus actuals financial planning, we are honing our current budget to make it more realistic, based on our growth. We have put a financial donation and expense process in place.
2) To attract more board members, we are utilizing skills we gained from the Horse for Horses Coalition meeting to develop a board member responsibility checklist. Utilizing that checklist, we will send letters out to prospective board members and then discuss with them their capabilities to meet those responsibilities.
3) To train more volunteers in a standard way we will be utilizing the Doris Day HSUS training program that we were granted for the first time this year.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
In order to accomplish the goals above, our organization will need to capabilities of:
1) We have CEO and board commitment to the goals listed above.
2) We have developed and agreed upon as a board to a strategic plan that outlines our strengths and weaknesses. We have agreed to concrete measures to utilize our strengths, shore up our weaknesses and be aware of our threats.
3) We have obtained an intern to help with the administrative work involved with reaching the goals above.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
1. We have obtained QuickBooks plus software and developed our budget versus actual reports. Our donations and expenses are flowing through this system.
2. We have purchased materials that outline board member duties and agreed upon those. We will be putting those responsibilities in a letter format and sending them to potential donors.
3. We have start using the Doris Day HSUS training program to train our volunteers in a more standard way.
