Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Sankofa Project
The Sankofa project is scheduled to launch in 2017 in West and East Africa. Our goal during the pilot phase of this project is to examine the efficacy of a new curriculum we developed for reducing psychological distress among 500 Africans affected by war. Our treatment curriculum is built on extensive clinical and neuroscience research, and will be launched as a mobile App to assist local workers to lead support groups in their communities.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
In 2015, we re-evaluated our mission to focus on advancing trauma interventions in Africa instead of only delivering it. During 2015-2016 we worked to build an unique treatment curriculum and innovative technology to take it to scale, and are launching it in West and East Africa in 2017. Our aim is to create innovative solutions as well as test existing ones to build evidence base that will inform other non-profits and institutions working with war-impacted communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Between 2017 and 2018, we plan to conduct two pilot implementations of our intervention to examine efficacy, alongside two randomized research projects.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Collectively, we have a talented team of professionals across four continents that enables us to achieve our goals. Our foreign group is directly supported by a committed Liberian team with 10+ years of experience delivering trauma relief in Africa, who frequently offer valuable, culturally-sensitive insight into our innovative ideas.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
While we are proud that our programs thus far have positively impacted 35,185 lives, according to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), there are approximately 18 million people fleeing war in West, Central and East Africa. There's still a lot of work to do. We want to create innovative solutions that will allow other agencies and non-profits to efficiently help as many people as possible.
Moreover, we also want to start a research centre in Liberia to train the next generation of mental health and neuroscience research with the purpose of advancing humanitarian services across the continent.
