What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
FIDMi has four core programs:
Mi Tierra, a membership based program that facilitates the engagement of immigrants and their families into the formal financial system, via formal alliances with credit unions. FIDMi is in the midst of organizing a Credit Union. Through Mi Tierra, FIDMi offers financial services such as low-cost remittances services and micro-credit.
Mi Tierra Market is a program that promotes Micro-enterprise development through business education and administration, financial literacy, technical assistance and through the provision of a marketplace of nostalgic (ethnic) products for program beneficiaries.
Semillas Financial Literacy Curriculum
SEMILLAS is a culturally and linguistically competent financial education program that uses participatory methodologies and techniques that aims to: a) create awareness among individuals and the community regarding the importance of savings and investment; b) promote community?s recognition of the impact on the local savings pool as a mean to increase the social and economic capital and; c) promote the use of the formal financial system provided by socially responsible financial institutions. The Curriculum has been designed as a Training -of- Trainers? Manual by which community promoters are trained to co-facilitate workshops, conduct community promotion and financial counseling as well as a tool for community organizing and advocacy around economic inclusion. The SEMILLAS Program is taught in seven (7) to nine (9) sessions, depending on the needs of each particular grouFIDMi trains members of the community to become trainers?, counselors, advocates and organizers, so their peers understand how ?to navigate the formal financial system, are informed about opportunities for savings and investments and, create awareness around the impact of remittances in their countries of origin. Promoters are also trained to become outreach and organizing workers. They also promote the services and products offered by Mi Tierra, FIDMi?s social enterprise.
Latinas en Poder! a Program that supports the financial independence and leaderhip of low-income Latina immigrants. Latinas en Poder trains Latinas as financial promoters and to reach out to their peers, on wealth/assets building.
The Semillas Program was evaluated with excellent results and, the organizations' model systematized towards the end of 2007.
