Mission

Democracy is strongest when more people participate! The Voter Network (formerly the Mainstream Education Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging Kansans to become the best informed, highest voting population in the country. We accomplish this through a suite of innovative statewide tools proven to increase voter turnout, which include our groundbreaking Voter to Voter project and KSBallot.org. Certain communities, people of color and those with less educational attainment for example, have routinely been underrepresented in the political process, vote at lower rates, and have poorer health outcomes. Our goal is to increase participation in the electoral process as a strategy to improve health outcomes and build civic leadership opportunities.

Voter to Voter

Voter to Voter is an innovative nonpartisan get-out-the-vote program that harnesses the power of relationships to educate, engage, and turn-out non and infrequent voters in Kansas. Our teams of volunteer ambassadors connect with five to ten people they already know and encourage them to get out to vote. With our online tool at votertovoter.org, comprehensive volunteer support, and through partnerships with local organizations in target communities Voter to Voter is making a real difference in Kansas voter turnout.

In 2018, our pilot year, we saw that individuals involved with Voter to Voter turned out at a significantly higher rate than the general population, 82% vs 56% in the November general election. In 2019, we doubled turnout in municipal elections. And in 2020, The Voter Network’s programs turned out a stunning 91% of voters, compared to about 71% statewide. More importantly, nonvoters we connected with turned out at 68%, compared to 41% statewide. (updated February 2021)
